Shuting Qiu And The Modern Colors
Milan
September 29, 2020
As the Milan fashion week is taking place some designers like SHUTING QIU decided to digitally present their collection and Meduse International was there to cover the digital edition.
From far, we have seen a lot of colors and prints as well as pastel colors, but one designer caught our attention: SHUTING QIU.
Who Is She?
SHUTING QIU graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Art, Antwerp in 2019, soon after establishing her eponymous brand and debuting in NYFW official calendar within the VFILES RUNWAY 10 winners contest in 2018. The brand conveys a signature sense of femininity that features a “modern romantic” woman, powerful and independent while maintaining her soft identity.
The SHUTING QIU woman dares to express herself with asymmetry and experimentation in silhouettes, often resulting in rich contrasting colors of silk jacquards, intricate embroideries, and juxtapositions of linear and floral prints. Currently based in Shanghai, the Chinese-born designer constantly finds inspiration in travel, international films, art, and literature. In 2020, Shuting was selected within the Arise Fashion Week international new talents and invited by Vogue Talents to join the World of Vogue Talents.
SS21: SUMMER WONDERLAND
After a break season imposed by COVID, Chinese fashion house, SHUTING QIU, makes its return to Milan and goes digital to present its Spring/Summer 2021 collection.
Realized in Shanghai in collaboration with Nowness China and directed by Qing Fan, Summer wonderland is inspired by Martin Parr’s documentary-style beach photography and showcases holiday scenes taking place in an unidentified “imaginary” beach on an ordinary summer. Through the lenses of a documentary and the language of fashion moments, the film captures Asian girls in SHUTING QIU SS21 between amusement and reflection.
Inspired by Russian artist Natalia Goncharova and her colorful neo-cubist paintings, SHUTING QIU SS21 features the brand signature juxtaposition of colorful and loud prints, floral and beaded embroideries, silk metallic jacquards, bold check and stripe suiting, reinvented in cheerful and bright color palettes and realized in lighter fabrics.
SHUTING QIU SS21 carries forward the brand’s concern for environmentally sustainable fashion and introduces recycled denim among other deadstock fabrics, which combines with embroideries made with recycled beads and inserts realized with fabrics produced with recycled plastic, already featured in previous collections
